Only getting involved three weeks out from opening date of the whole Wynyard Quarter waterfront development project, Shade Systems had to put some serious effort & resources into completing this project on time and within budget. With a rough brief from Architect & Project Manager, we had to finalise the Design & Engineer the Sail Structure, then: Manufacture+Hot-Dip Galv+Paint the poles, concrete in place and manufacture & install the PVC Membrane - all in the space of 10 days!! We managed to complete it with one day to spare!
This Tensile PVC Sail is right in the centre of the new Wynyard Quarter redevelopment and the Focal Point of the Karanga Plaza - meaning 'The Welcoming Point'. With the whole area being Nautical themed, this kind of structure blends into the redevoloment like only fabric can, yet maintains its function to shelter the information kiosk it is situated beside.
After 18 months in the planning process, and patiently waiting for MOE sign off, Glenbervie School finally got their 'COLA' (Covered Outdoor Learning Area) Canopy. Spanning 31.0 x 18.0m (approx 560m2) and covering two thirds of their top sports court area, this has turned an ordinary playing area into an all-weather sports arena, assembly area, Gala Day central point and capable of hosting Netball Games & Tournaments etc.
As you can imagine, Principal Paul Shepherd & Staff are delighted with the completed Structure and wished they'd made the decision years earlier.
